Hortense bataille’s original acrylic painting *la Bastide Provençale*, dated 2026 and signed by hand, depicts a colourful Mediterranean garden with a house, steps, an arch and lush vegetation.
Description from the seller
Hortense Bataille-Watkins lives and works in Marseille. After studies at the École des Beaux-Arts de Caen and in several Paris studios, she deepened her practice of watercolor, oil, and dry pastel for seven years in the United States alongside renowned American and Spanish painters, including Sebastian Capella, Joan Grine and Wolf Kahn.
Nourished by gardens, landscapes, living nature and the Mediterranean shores, her universe does not seek to reproduce reality. Hortense interprets it with poetry, at the boundary of figuration and dreamlike imagination, to reveal its full vitality.
Her signature is distinguished by bold assemblages and a radiant palette: almost fluorescent anis green, lemon yellows, tangy yellows and turquoise or indigo blues—firing in a real fireworks of colors. Each shade is chosen with extreme delicacy, to make the canvas vibrate and evoke an immediate emotion.
Elegant, feminine and deeply dreamlike, her painting offers a sense of happiness, as if nature suddenly flooded our view with light and joy. An invitation to immediate happiness.
Canvas painting, stretched, ready to hang.
A bright, living and colorful Mediterranean garden. This acrylic on canvas painting invites the eye into a sunlit scene — a southern house, a staircase, an arch, lush vegetation and an intensely blue sky. The work evokes the softness of a garden filled with light, the freshness of the plants and the warm atmosphere of a Mediterranean home.
The bold colors give the painting its strength — vibrant greens, deep blues, turquoise touches, bright yellows and rosy nuances create a joyful and expressive scene. The botanical shapes take a central place, with generous foliage, graphic plants and a sense of natural abundance. The architecture — staircase and arch — adds structure to the composition and reinforces the feeling of an intimate, almost secret place.
With its 56 x 46 cm, this original artwork is easy to integrate into any interior while bringing a real visual presence. It fits perfectly in a living room, a bedroom, an entry hall, a kitchen, an office or a vacation home.
Original hand-painted, unique piece. Ready to be hung upon receipt.
