Description from the seller
Antonio Palmieri (1946–2019): Garden of Light — The Charm of Butterflies
Antonio Palmieri (1946–2019), an Italian painter born in Naples, was a self-taught artist known for his expressive pictorial universe and his remarkable talent for color. His work covers a wide range of subjects, from urban scenes to seascapes, including sailing boats, female silhouettes and nature-inspired compositions. His painting is characterized by intense colors, generous texture and a free interpretation of reality.
In this luminous composition, butterflies with colorful wings move freely above a garden teeming with flowers and foliage. Their delicate silhouettes stand out against a light background in blue and turquoise tones, while the vegetation unfolds in a profusion of reds, yellows, greens and whites.
The contrast between the butterflies' lightness and the richness of the painterly material gives the work its distinctive character. Impasto, spontaneous gestures and color overlays create a vibrant surface, where forms seem to reveal themselves stroke by stroke. The composition thus blends the freshness of a sunlit garden with the artist’s characteristic chromatic intensity.
The butterflies impart a sense of freedom and lightness, while the floral abundance lends depth and vitality to the whole. An expressive and decorative work that celebrates the beauty of nature through a radiant palette and generous painting.
