Description from the seller

Circle of Carlo Cignani (1628–1719) – Madonna with Child
Oil on canvas
Period: 1680/1720
Measurements: 88 x 67 cm in a contemporaneous frame
Canvas: 66 x 45.5 cm
Frame: Antique oval giltwood frame, with a top molding decorated with intertwined ribbon motifs.

Description of the work

A refined devotional composition depicting the Virgin Mary with the Child Jesus in her arms. The Madonna, with a sweet and contemplative expression, wears a pinkish robe and a blue-green mantle, while the Child, characterized by a soft flesh tone and lively expressiveness, gazes at the observer.

The work shows stylistic affinities with the classicist tradition of the Bologna school, particularly in the idealization of faces, the delicacy of the chiaroscuro transitions, and the balance of the composition, recalling the painting models of Carlo Cignani and his circle.

Condition: recently restored; signs of natural aging of the painting surface and some surface unevenness are evident. Overall in good condition.

*** Photo note
The photographic images of the work were taken with professional studio lighting and spotlights to ensure better readability of the composition, details, and painting matter. This lighting may cause slight variations in color perception and brightness compared with viewing the work directly. The photographs are for illustrative and documentary purposes only.

*** Note on the frame:
The frame is attached to the work as a courteous gift and with no attribution of economic value. Given its antiquity and natural fragility, any damage, detachment, breakage, or losses occurring during transport and attributable exclusively to the frame cannot be grounds for refund or compensation.

Ideal for collecting and investment
