Ulisse - Serenata

Recommended Lot Title

Ulisse – "Serenade" – Oil on panel – Work signed and numbered 06/50 – Framed

Description of the artwork

A fascinating oil painting on panel titled "Serenade", created by the artist Ulisse. The work adopts a figurative style with naïf-inspired influences, characterized by bold blocks of color, clear outlines, and a suggestive medieval or Renaissance atmosphere. The scene takes place at night under a starry sky and shows a group of musicians in red garments and dark headgear (including a trumpet player and a mandolin/lute player) who dedicate a serenade to a figure leaning out of a balcony, who responds by offering a rose. The faces of the characters, deliberately devoid of expressive features, give the composition a poetic and timeless character. The painting is signed in the original by the artist at the bottom center (Ulisse).
