Description from the seller
Taurus classical guitar model 49 handcrafted in Barcelona, Spain in 1974.
Instrument vintage rare and sought-after.
Taurus guitars were produced in the late 1960s and the 1980s in a renowned workshop led by luthier Arturo Grau.
In the 60s/70s, the iconic Madrid house Jose Ramirez subcontracted some of its study guitars to the Taurus workshop. That’s why these instruments share a design and a sonic signature very close to Ramirez models of the era.
Famous Spanish artisans cut their teeth there. The great luthier Antonio Picado Berga notably worked in the Taurus workshop from 1968 to 1982 before founding his own brand. It is interesting to note that Antonio Picado’s autonomous workshop continued producing his own Model 49 directly inspired by this historical know-how.
Top in solid spruce, back and sides in mahogany. Fingerboard and bridge in rosewood. It delivers a typically Spanish sound characterized by deep and warm basses combined with round and very expressive trebles. Designed at the time as an advanced study guitar, it rivals excellent concert guitars. Good overall condition, proper string action, a small crack on the bottom of the left side has been stabilized, some signs of wear, notably on the table finish (no cracks in the wood) and without any impact on the sound. Scale length 650 mm, nut width 53 mm. Carefully shipped in its original hard case.
