Description from the seller

A classic English table match striker. The globular body is rich amber/honey glass, finely ribbed all over so a match can be struck on any side. Matches stand inside, held by a broad sterling silver collar with a smooth rounded profile and a rolled rim.

The collar has a full set of English hallmarks: the maker’s mark “AJ”, the lion passant for sterling silver (.925), the London Assay Office leopard’s head, and the date letter. The marks are crisp and clearly legible (see photos).

This form became popular on English gentlemen’s desks, smoking tables and libraries around the turn of the 20th century. Most examples have clear glass. The warm amber colour is less common and makes this one an attractive decorative piece, whether used for matches or as a small vase or desk object.
