Acquired at the maestro Walter Piacesi's studio by Giovanbattista Vaiani Lisi (founder of Galleria d'Arte Piero Della Francesca and leading gallerist of the Master during the 1970s). The work has never left the collection of G.B. Vaiani Lisi and therefore our Gallery that places it for sale.

DESCRIPTION OF THE WORK

We propose at auction a historic work from 1972 by Walter Piacesi, a master universally recognized by critics as one of the greatest Italian draftsmen and printmakers of the 20th century.

The work, entitled "Painter and Model", is an intimate and refined pencil drawing on laid paper. The composition explores one of the most classical and fascinating themes in art history: the visual and emotional dialogue between the artist and his muse, rendered with the quick, vibrant, and unmistakable stroke that made Piacesi's graphic production famous. Walter Piacesi (Ascoli Piceno, 1929) is a distinguished Italian painter, engraver, and sculptor, regarded as one of the leading figures in graphic art and figurative art of the postwar period. Linked to the great Italian figurative tradition, he has depicted with a witty, poetic, and sometimes melancholic gaze the society of his time, immortalizing in his works scenes of daily life, intimate female figures, clergymen, soldiers, and characteristic figures.

His mastery of graphic techniques, from drawing to etching, is absolute, honed and transmitted also thanks to his long tenure as head of the chair of Techniques of Printing at the Accademia di Belle Arti di Firenze. Through a lean, nervous, incredibly expressive line, Piacesi manages to give deep psychological resonance to his subjects. Throughout his long and prolific career, he has mounted countless solo exhibitions in Italy and abroad, earning prestigious critical acclaim and consolidating the presence of his works in important public and private collections.
