Chinese blue-and-white porcelain mustard pot with a lid, decorated with Long Eliza figures and peonies, bearing an Artemisia leaf mark and dating to the Kangxi period (1662–1722).
Description from the seller
Chinese blue-and-white 'Long Lives' mustard pot with lid – Artemisia leaf mark – Kangxi period (1662-1722)
A very charming and authentic Chinese blue-and-white porcelain mustard pot with handle and lid, dating from the early Qing dynasty (Kangxi period, 1662–1722).
The body of the pot is beautifully hand-painted in underglaze blue with an elegant panel decoration. Here are alternately 'Long Lives' (slender Chinese ladies in an enclosed garden) and flower pots with lush peonies depicted. The base is marked with the sought-after Artemisia leaf (footnote leaf).
Condition report:
• Pot: At the stand ring a slight restoration and light fritting/glazeware damage here and there, including the ear, (see detail photos).
• Lid: The accompanying lid is fully authentic, dates from the same early Qing period and has a lovely matching decoration. However it forms a so-called 'marriage': it is fractionally too large and a fraction of a different color.
Despite the honest signs of age, this remains a historically interesting and highly decorative centerpiece for the enthusiast of early Chinese porcelain!
Weight is 149 grams, 9 cm high and 9 cm wide and 6.6 cm deep.
It will be carefully packed and sent by registered mail.
