Description from the seller
Proferio Grossi (1923–2000) – Still life with bottles, books and objects, 1986
Interesting oil painting on a rigid support, attributed to the Italian painter Proferio Grossi, born in Vignale di Traversetolo (Parma) in 1923 and who passed away in Parma in 2000.
The work, dated 1986, depicts a refined still life executed with great painterly precision, characterized by illusionistic effects typical of trompe-l'œil technique.
The composition features bottles of different shapes and colors, an elegant blue glass vase, a candlestick, old books, an apple, writing utensils and an antique pistol.
In the background there is a small painting depicting a gondola in the Venetian lagoon, a detail that enriches the composition by creating a suggestive play of images.
The palette, dominated by gray, blue and brown tones, is brightened by the intense red of the bottles and by a careful study of lights and reflections.
