Columbus – Safety fountain pen with retractable nib – 18 K gold-filled laminate – circa 1925/1930
Elegant vintage Columbus fountain pen, a historic Italian manufacturer founded in Milan in 1918.
Model of the Safety type, characterized by the particular retractable nib system, operated by rotating the end portion of the pen.
The body features a refined 18 K.R. gold-filled coating, with engraved ornamental decorations and sections in ebonite. The cap bears both the clip and the distinctive upper ring.
The retractable mechanism is functioning: the nib extends and retracts smoothly via the lower control. No ink writing tests have been performed and therefore the perfect seal of the filling system is not guaranteed.
The pen is presented in good cosmetic condition considering its age, with normal signs of use, patina, and slight traces of time. No evident cracks or structural breaks are detected.
The photographs constitute an integral part of the description and show in detail the condition, decorations, markings, and nib.
