In 2001 and 2002, when the hype surrounding the Harry Potter books (and movies) was on its way to its peak, Warner Bros' daughter Wizards Of The Coast (WOTC) produced the collectible cards game, in which the first two years of Harry Potter at Hogwarts are central. The series consists of the Base Set (BS, 116 cards) and four Expansion Sets: Quidditch Cup (CS, 81 cards), Diagon Alley (DA, 80 cards), Adventures at Hogwarts (AH, 80 cards) and Chamber of Secrets (CS, 140 cards). WOTC has numbered all the cards. The 497 cards (+ 2, see below) are divided into rares, uncommons, commons and lessons. They all are in this lot. In addition, WOTC issued foil- and holo-versions of all the rares in the expansion sets. Also in BS foils and holo's are included, but in that set they are (but two) functional for players. Because of their unique text blocks (spoilers), they are needed when compiling decks. Collectors too want to have these BS-foils and holo's because of their alternative art. This lot includes all 18 foils and holo's from BS, all 30 from QC, 1 (out of 30) from DA, 18 (out of 30) from AH and 29 (out of 55) from CS. The promos and specials (32 in total) are regular uncommons and commons, 'upgraded' to foils, or are printed with a gold promo stamp. 20 of them are included in this lot. All foils, holo's, promos and (except for the last three) specials are rare to very rare. Many collectors are only interested in the 499 regular cards and consider the foils and holo's (except those from BS) and the promos and specials as a 'bonus'. Not only because they are hard to find and quite expensive, but mainly because they add nothing in terms of spoilers and very little in terms of art. Further in this lot: - DA Starter Set (two 41-card decks). Included because of two rares from BS with different art and two special foils. - 21 Dutch HP cards. Not known whether these are issued by WOTC as well. All cards are stored in ultra pro maps and will come with the card lists.
