Six large engraved plates, several times folded, illustrating surgical instruments and equipment, as well as their use on the human body. The author, Johann Zacharias Platner (1694-1747); was an important surgeon in Leipzig; his "Institutiones chirurgiae" were a respected and widely used manual; the last Latin edition appeared in 1783, a German translation in 1786.
The author was very famous in Germany and in particular in Leipzig (Leipzig).

Platner, Johann Zacharias 1694-1747. German physician and anatomist. He was a student of Boerhaave and Albinus in Leiden; in Leipzig, he was an extraordinary professor of anatomy and surgery and dean of the Faculty of Medicine. See Platner, Johann Zacharias.
