Classification: Carbonaceous chondrite (CO3)
History: Found in the Sahara Desert by Hameti Harras
Physical characteristics: Several stones covered with brown fusion crust. Sawn surface shows a brown-gray interior with little weathering.
Petrography: (J. Llorca, UPC) Chondrules are set in an abundant, fine-grained, iron-rich matrix. Opaques are metal and troilite. Chondrule size ranges from <100 µm to 500 µm, with an average apparent diameter of 190±70 µm (N=72)
Geochemistry: Mineral compositions and geochemistry: Olivine in the range Fa1.1-53.5 (mean Fa17.9±11.3, N=27). Cr2O3 in ferroan olivine 0.26±0.21 wt.% (N=13). Low-Ca pyroxene in the range Fs2.2-12.4 (mean Fs3.5±1.8Wo1.4±0.9, N=21). Magnetic susceptibility log χ (× 10-9 m3/kg) = 4.27.
Classification: Based on the texture, average chondrule size, mineralogy, and mineral chemistry, the meteorite belongs to type CO3
