Saul Leiter - Early Color (FIRST PRINTING) - 2006

Colour photography at it's best and already a classic of it's genre. Immensely successful Early Color presented Leiter's remarkable body of colour work to the public for the first time in book form. Here in the VERY SCARCE FIRST PRINTING (there were many later printings) and in EXCELLENT FRESH CONDITION. PLEASE ENJOY the newest edition of the more and more popular ONE-SELLER-PHOTOBOOK auctions by Ecki Heuser (5Uhr30.com/Cologne/Germany) on "Catawiki". Although Edward Steichen had exhibited some of Leiter's colour photography at the Museum of Modern Art in 1953, it remained virtually unknown to the world thereafter. Leiter moved to New York in 1946 to become a painter, yet through his friendship with Richard Pousette-Dart he quickly recognized the creative potential of photography. Leiter continued to paint, exhibiting with Philip Guston and Willem de Kooning, but the camera remained his ever-present means of recording life in the metropolis. None of Leiter's contemporaries, with the partial exception of Helen Levitt, assembled a comparable body of work: subtle, often abstract compositions of lyrical, eloquent colour. It’s Christmas soon, so a great opportunity to purchase your gift - for others or for yourself. I selected for you more than 100 highly attractive LOTS from MY PERSONAL COLLECTION and from my newest purchases. IF YOU WIN MORE THAN 1 OF MY BOOKS IN THIS AUCTION, YOU WILL PAY ONLY 1 X SHIPPING COSTS - WORLDWIDE. Steidl, Göttingen. 2006. First edition, first printing. Hardcover with dustjacket. 200 x 200 mm. 168 pages. 100 color photos. Photos: Saul Leiter. Introduction by Martin Harrison. Text in English. Condition: Book inside and outside very fresh and flawless, like new and unread; clean with no marks and with no foxing. Dustjacket very fresh and complete with no tears and with no missing parts; very light trace of use. Overall very fine condition. Great photobook in fantastic fresh condition - already a classic of colour photography. With the (printed) dedication by Saul Leiter at the end of the book. #ExclusivePhotographersStudio
