Emiel Devos
artist from Belgium 1886-1964
Devos was educated at the Academy of Architecture and Drawing in Roeselare from 1889 to 1905. He then worked in the interior decoration studio of Emiel Duyvevaardt, one of the most famous decorators of his time, until 1920. Devos was a member of the Roeselare Art Circle and gradually built his creative career. From 1930 to 1951 he worked as a drawing teacher at the Roeselare Academy. He favored landscapes (with a passion for dunes), old buildings and especially floral arrangements. He is often called the "painter of flowers." his work is traditional, but characterized by great skill and perfectionism. He was a respected artist of his time. During the interwar period, the city of Roeselare commissioned him to create a monumental fresco in the conference room based on Sanderus' map of Roeselare's town center from the mid-seventeenth century.paintings by Emiel Devos have been sold at auction several times; in 2011, at one of the auctions, a similar painting of a ball was sold for 2238 €....
