Description from the seller
• Artist: Anne-Mie Van Kerckhoven / AMVK (Belgium, born 1951).
Pioneering pioneer of Belgian feminist and multimedia art, represented by the prestigious Zeno X Gallery.
• Title of the work: "Nursery"
• Year of creation: Designed in 1985, produced/published in 1986.
• Technique: High-quality industrial multiple object. Printing on a sturdy plastic plate (Plexiglas/PVC) with a palpable, subtle relief.
• Edition information: Extremely limited museum edition of only 10 copies. This concerns edition number 8/10, including the rare circled "A" series marking. Early AMVK object plates from this period are extremely rare on the open market.
• Signature and numbering: Fully hand-signed and documented by the artist on the back of the plate. The back features the signature, dating, the title "NURSERY", the copyright year 1985/1986, and the edition numbering (8/10 Ⓐ) in marker.
• Material: Thick industrial acrylic/Plexiglas plate. Characteristic of her groundbreaking material choice in the 1980s.
• Provenance: Private collection, Belgium. The depicted portraits are part of her historically highly important installation cycle "Man in the Animal" (1985), at the time shown at the International Cultural Centre (ICC) in Antwerp.
• Condition: In very good and original condition. The plate has a beautifully palpable relief and the colors are intense and saturated. Minimal, natural signs of aging inherent to this type of industrial plastic.
Contextual note:
"Nursery" is a museum-worthy masterpiece. In the 1980s AMVK stood against traditional art forms by using harsh, commercial plastics to shape themes around psychology and sexuality. This object is a tangible fragment of one of the most important Belgian avant-garde installations of the 20th century.
