Volker Riepenhausen

A  bi-folio miniature from a very damaged Muslim Book of Prayers dated 1791 and originating from North India. The text is bold naskh in black ink with gold cloud decoration between the lines and verse headings in red. The framing device is simple with red (a little faded), gold and blue lines surrounding the complete text. The rough translation is a prayer to God who created the earth and the seas for protection and refuge refuge from the raging storms and to save those Muslims who believe in him, the most merciful, the most Gracious.
