Verbazingwekkende en grote fossiele schedel van een Bizon priscus. Deze steppe wisent was de voorouder van de bos- en prairiebizons (Bison antiquus) zoals we ze vandaag kennen. Alleen waren ze maar liefst 50% groter.

Bison priscus kon een schouderhoogte van maximaal 2 m bereiken en tot bijna 1000 kg wegen. Als grazers leefden ze in grote indrukwekkende kuddes, stieren en koeien met kalveren door elkaar gemengd. Ze leefden in het Pleistoceen tot ongeveer 5.000 jaar geleden.

Deze grote en zeer complete schedel werd gevonden in Polen en is ongeveer 75000 jaar oud. De hechtingen komen er heel mooi uit. 

Rond 130.000 jaar geleden was het mogelijk om Amerika te bereiken via Alaska en in grote aantallen vertrokken ze van Eurasia.

Neanderthalers jaagde op deze bison en was hun voornamelijkste voedsel bron. 

Deze schedel is lange tijd in bezit geweest van een voorname Franse familie die het ruim 100 jaar in bezit heeft gehad 

De schedel is tot op de dag van vandaag volledig stabiel en is niet behandeld.
