Dear bidders and connoisseurs of good wines,

my name is Dr. Berndt Jesenko and this legendary wine has been stored in a wine cellar managed by myself since 2019 (the owner is a famous firearms company in Austria). 

The 1985 Château Lafite Rothschild is widely regarded as one of the standout vintages of the 1980s from this First Growth estate. Benefiting from a warm and stable growing season, this wine exhibits the hallmark finesse and elegance for which Lafite is known, combined with the richness and charm typical of the vintage.

In the glass, the wine shows a deep garnet color with some bricking at the rim, consistent with its age. On the nose, it delivers a classic bouquet of cedar wood, pencil shavings, dried blackcurrants, and tobacco leaf, underscored by hints of leather, earth, and subtle graphite minerality. As the wine opens, notes of dried violets, truffle, and fine spices emerge, offering a layered and complex aromatic profile.

On the palate, it is silky and medium-bodied, with beautifully integrated tannins and a texture that reflects nearly four decades of graceful bottle aging. The structure is elegant, not forceful, with precise acidity and remarkable balance. Flavors of black cherry, cassis, cigar box, and dried herbs unfold gently, leading into a long, persistent finish with touches of spice and earthy finesse.

While fully mature and drinking beautifully now, well-stored examples like this one should continue to show vitality and are expected to remain at peak for another 5–10 years.

Overall Impression: A superb example of mature Lafite, combining aromatic finesse, textural elegance, and the signature Pauillac minerality. A true classic from a generous vintage – ideal for collectors or for a special occasion.
