De MG A is een volbloed Britse klassieker met een tijdloos ontwerp en verrassend fijne rijervaring.

Toen hij in 1955 op de markt kwam als opvolger van de MG T-serie, viel de MG A meteen op door zijn moderne en gestroomlijnde uiterlijk. De 1600-versie bracht wat extra pit dankzij de krachtigere motor, wat hem nog aantrekkelijker maakte voor sportautoliefhebbers.

De auto bewees zijn kwaliteiten op het circuit, onder andere tijdens de 24 uur van Le Mans. Hij was misschien niet de aller snelste, maar wel sterk, betrouwbaar en bijzonder stevig – ook onder zware omstandigheden.

Totaal rolden er iets meer dan 31.500 van de band. Tegenwoordig is de MG A een geliefde klassieker, niet alleen om zijn looks, maar ook om het gevoel dat hij oproept: rijden!   Deze MG A. Wat u mogelijk al wel uit de foto’s en het rode fotoalbum opmaakte, is dat hij een aantal jaar geleden volledig gerestaureerd is. Alvast een lang verhaal kort: klaar voor de toertochten. 


Carrosserie & lakwerk:

Zeer mooi om mee te beginnen. De lakkleur is het typerende Old-English White wat hem zeer goed staat. De koets is erg strak. Door de volledige restauratie in plaats van een gedeeltelijk is hij dus ook erg mooi gespoten, in losse delen (dus geen meegespoten rubberen biezen tussen de panelen). 

Dit resulteert in een net ogende auto. Na het opbouwen is er een vet gebruikt om roest te voorkomen in de toekomst (wat hier en daar zwart zichtbaar is tussen de naden). Op de deur aan de bestuurderskant zit een gekke plek, het lijkt dat de lak is gaan werken op het materiaal of een chemische werking door een middel. Ook het achterscherm onderaan zitten wat kleine blaasjes (mogelijk licht vettig voor spuiten geweest). 
De lak is verder in een nette staat.

De deuren, motorkap en kofferklep sluiten goed. Ook het cabrio dak zelf past erg goed en strak! Met persoonlijk de meest toffe extra, de long-tonneau cover en lexan raampjes. Handig als het regenachtig is, en tof om te zien als je lekker in je eentje rijdt.  Bij het cabrio dak horen 2 plaatsbare schuiframen in frame, speciaal voor de MG A. Dit monteren of wisselen is prima in je eentje uit te voeren. De bodem van de auto is nog zeer mooi, hier zul je eerst geen werk van hebben. 


Technisch:

Starten en lopen, hij slaat moeiteloos aan en loopt goed. Hij klinkt overigens ook echt top, een heerlijke 4 cilinder snerp om de beleving af te maken. Deze MG A is overigens voorzien van een 1.798 CC motor tijdens de restauratie, afkomstig uit een MG B (dus geen 1.6 meer). Dit geeft de auto net even meer pit wat de rijbeleving nog leuker maakt. Hij loopt erg goed, je hoeft niet direct onderhoud uit te voeren. Verder remt hij goed, schakelt hij goed en stuurt hij goed. Een auto waar je gelijk lekker mee op pad kan. 


Interieur:

Ook zeer mooi. Tijdens de restauratie natuurlijk aangepakt, maar toch origineel gebleven qua stijl. En dus heel compleet met een goed werkend cabrio dak, een long tonneau cover en de extra raampjes als het cabrio dak ingevouwen is. 


Documenten:

Qua onderhoudspapieren is er niet veel, maar iets van waarde absoluut, namelijk het fotoalbum waar de restauratie in staat, hierdoor krijg je echt een goed beeld van de auto, en de tijd die genomen is voor de restauratie zelf. 

Al met al een heerlijke MGA die staat te trappelen om te mogen rijden!
