Ein ästhetisch ansprechender Knochenfisch mit kräftigem Schädel und stark verknöchertem Kopf. Auffällig sind die großen paarigen Brustflossen und die riesige gegabelte Schwanzflosse.

Das große Auge ist erkennbar und verstärkt mit dem kräftigen Wulst darüber den aggressiven Ausdruck dieses Raubfisches
Deutlich sichtbar ist die dichte Bezahnung mit den kleinen, nadelartigen Zähnen
Der langgestreckte Körper zeigt durchgängig die Wirbelsäule mit Rippen und Gräten
Die Rückenflosse und Analflosse sind eher unauffällig, doch die Brustflossen und die Schwanzflosse sind beeindruckend
Pachycormus war ein flinker Räuber und ernährte sich von Fischen und Kopffüßern

Fundort: Region Holzmaden, Baden-Württemberg, Deutschland
Geologischer Zeitraum: Jura, Unterjura (201,3 – 174,1 Millionen Jahre) 
Stratigraphie: Lias epsilon / Toarcium

Das Fossil stammt aus einer Altsammlung und wurde bereits in den 1980ern präpariert. Rückseitig wurden damals bereits 2 Aufhängevorrichtungen eingearbeitet. Das Gestein um den Fisch wurde 2023 überstrahlt.
