澱 (Odomi) — meaning “sediment” in Japanese — contemplates the quiet weight of what settles beneath the surface, the residue that remains when movement has ceased. This painting by contemporary artist VITYRA draws the viewer into a landscape of stillness and gravity, where time drifts downward and the unseen gathers in silence.

Measuring 100 cm x 140 cm, the work is composed of green clay, terre verte, raw sienna, and clay on canvas. Its surface unfolds in muted strata: shadowed depths dissolving into earthy warmth, faint horizons that appear and vanish, and tones that shift like water stained by soil. What lies above hints at air and cloud, while what lies below seems to sink, layering the memory of what once flowed.

澱 speaks to the unnoticed beauty of accumulation — the quiet dignity of what drifts down, gathers, and endures. It holds both obscurity and clarity, heaviness and calm, a reminder that even in what has settled, there is movement, presence, and life.

As with all works by VITYRA, the piece belongs to the philosophy of wabi-sabi — embracing impermanence, incompletion, and the depth found in what is hidden rather than revealed. Odomi is not the surface, but the stillness beneath it.
