Antique 18th Century Dutch Delftware Charger – Marked ‘Z’

A beautiful and large 18th-century Dutch Delftware charger, featuring a classic blue and white tin-glazed faience design. The central motif showcases a floral arrangement in a vase, surrounded by an ornate border of scrolling foliage and floral elements, typical of Dutch Delft pottery from this period.

This piece is hand-painted, with vibrant cobalt blue decoration against a creamy white background, reflecting the influence of Chinese export porcelain, which inspired many Delftware designs. The reverse side bears a ‘Z’ marking, possibly indicating a specific Delft factory or maker, adding to its historical significance.

Condition: The charger exhibits chipping and a visible repaired crack, which is secured with an old metal brace, a common historic repair method used to preserve valuable ceramic pieces. Some wear consistent with its age, but the glaze and design remain well-preserved.
