Chalcedon gehört zur Familie der mikrokristallinen Quarze und entsteht über Millionen von Jahren durch die Ablagerung von kieselsäurehaltigen Lösungen in Hohlräumen und Spalten der Erdkruste. Die charakteristische goldene Farbe dieser Freiform ist das Ergebnis von mineralischen Spurenelementen wie Eisenoxiden, die dem Stein seine warme Ausstrahlung verleihen. Besonders hochwertige Exemplare stammen aus Madagaskar, Namibia oder Brasilien, wo diese einzigartigen Varietäten gefunden werden.

Diese kunstvoll geschliffene Freiform ist nicht nur ein ästhetisches Sammlerstück, sondern auch ein beeindruckendes Dekorationsobjekt, das die natürliche Schönheit der Erde in sich trägt. It is a fossil wood dating back 200 million years, all parts from a log or branches have been silicified, meaning that organic components were little by little replaced by silicon in the form of jasper, chalcedony and more rarely opal. Without the organic parts, all the living matter was replaced by stone : there are growth rings, cell separations, almost like worm cracks.
Its features are those of the mineral that would have pseudo-transformed the wood : the silicon.
And that’s what we call a "petrified wood" in the common language.
