Les Bijoux de la Castafiore EO B34 1963 - RARE Casterman + Methuen Edition not in BDM!

Selling quite a rare album for advanced collectors: in the late 50’s/early 60’s when Tintin was not yet translated in English, the first UK publisher (Methuen) did sell a very limited number of French-speaking editions to the UK stores. Probably as a first commercial initiative to prepare the market for the English edition launch…

Very few of those albums survived in good condition (as most of those were often used in schools to learn French)
This one is thus a rare find and in very good condition – main book interior is pristine without inscription or damage. Front and back cover have some minimal wear due to age of this 60+ years old album.

Only such 2 albums are currently reported in the latest BDM (Le Secret de la Licorne B35 & Le Temple du Soleil B29) and mentioned as “1st French speaking albums sold in England (rare)” with a valuation almost 100% above those of the same regular French speaking editions.

This album rarity is further enhanced by the fact that a) is not mentioned in the BDM (and I did not report it to them so the buyer can also enjoy that activity if he/she so wishes) and b) this is a “Original Edition” (EO) of this album (Belgian version) and not a later reprint. Based on current BDM’s valuation of the 2 such albums reported in latest edition, this album would probably be listed in the range of 1,500-1,900 EUR… (but that is only speculation until someone reports that album back to BDM and wait for the next edition…)

So a unique opportunity to own such a rare edition – in last 5 years of active research (I live in the UK) I only found 4 such albums and only this one as a 1st Edition! Based on interest, I will soon list the other 3 albums (also not in BDM – Le Tresor de Rackham le Rouge B26 & On a marche sur la Lune B24 & B26)
