SONY PS-5520

A beautiful and very well preserved early-seventies belt-drive turntable from SONY with its original cartridge, also in very good shape. There are no scratches on the wood sides, nor on the lid. The lid looks very good, just polished, with good original hinges. Stylish and solid look!

It features fully automatic operation including auto start and stop, can also be operated manually, a static balance tonearm, an anti-skating compensator, and a 4-pole hysteresis synchronous motor. The turntable is praised for its robust "build like a tank" construction, which contributes to its long-term durability. The motor runs quietly, I replaced the belt with a new one. Very charming are the click sounds, when the big operation knob changes positions, when starts or ends the play. It has very nice REPEAT function, by turn it on, when the record ends, the arm returns and starts to play it again from the beginning, until you get rid and stop it. You can operate it manually and to set the needle over your favorite song. Inside is fully mechanical, just impressive, made to last. I replaced the original power supply cable with a socket and now you can use higher class cables. The original SONY VM-22G cartridge and needle are in very good shape and sounds great. Of course you can upgrade by replacing them with a higher class cartridge. I test it with Yamaha MC-9 from my other TT, and the result was impressive. But again – the original cartridge has an excellent sound quality. The original cord for anti-scating weight was torn and I replaced it with a very thin wire, which works. To setup and adjust the tonearm weight is very easy – everything you should do is precisely described in the service manual, I’ll add a printed copy with the turntable.

When unpackage, there are 3 transport screws, which have to be removed. I’ll provide a durable package, the shell and cartridge will be separated, the counter weight and anti-scating too.
