L’une des poupées Barbie en porcelaine les plus emblématiques jamais produites par Mattel, Stardust fut lancée en 1994 dans une collection hommage au grand maître de l’Art déco, Erté (né Romain de Tirtoff). D’origine russe et installé à Paris, Erté a profondément marqué l’univers de l’illustration, de la mode et du théâtre dans les années 1920–1930 par son style graphique raffiné et théâtral.

Le design de la poupée reflète l’esthétique de la période tardive d’Erté, notamment lorsqu’il concevait costumes et décors pour les arts de la scène. Bien qu’il n’ait pas collaboré directement avec Serge Diaghilev, il évoluait dans la même atmosphère parisienne que celle des Ballets Russes, mêlant mode, illustration et art total au service du spectacle.

Réalisée en porcelaine de haute qualité, la poupée Erté Stardust se distingue par un niveau de finition exceptionnel. Sa robe, intégralement faite à la main, est une œuvre d’orfèvrerie miniature : des centaines de perles cousues une à une, un drapé argenté scintillant, et un manteau spectaculaire rebrodé d’étoiles dorées. Chaque détail, jusqu’à la coiffe constellée, témoigne de la minutie extrême apportée à cette réalisation.

Comme toutes les poupées de la collection Erté, elle fut produite en édition limitée, exclusivement destinée à un public de collectionneurs avertis. 
Peinte à la main et numérotée individuellement, elle incarne à la perfection la rencontre entre le génie d’Erté et l’univers de Barbie.
