Gesigneerd en genummerd I/XXI

Zeer fraaie en zeldzame zeefdruk van de Belgische kunstenaar Dan Van Severen, een van de belangrijkste vertegenwoordigers van de geometrisch-abstracte kunst in België. Het werk dateert uit 1974 en is in perfecte staat.

Van Severen staat bekend om zijn strakke vormentaal waarin hij steeds terugkeerde naar elementaire geometrische figuren: lijn, vierkant, cirkel en kruis. Deze vormentaal ontwikkelde hij tot een bijna meditatief oeuvre dat internationale erkenning kreeg. Zijn werk bevindt zich in talrijke museale en private collecties.

Deze zeefdruk toont zijn typische reductie tot essentie: een strakke geometrie met subtiele nuances in kleur en vlakverdeling, waarin stilte en concentratie voelbaar zijn. Het gaat om een vroeg werk uit de jaren ’70, een periode waarin Van Severen zijn beeldtaal volledig had uitgezuiverd.

Context:
Dan Van Severen wordt vaak geplaatst naast andere grote vertegenwoordigers van de minimalistische en abstracte kunst zoals Antoni Tàpies, Victor Vasarely, Ellsworth Kelly, Sol LeWitt en Belgische tijdgenoten als Guy Vandenbranden, Jo Delahaut en Marc Mendelson. Zijn werk sluit ook aan bij de internationale tendens van reductie en stilte die in dezelfde periode door kunstenaars als Donald Judd en Agnes Martin werd onderzocht.

Een bijzonder verzamelobject voor liefhebbers van abstractie en minimalisme, en een waardevolle aanvulling in elke collectie.
