Saul Leiter: All About Saul Leiter. After moving to New York in the late 1940s to study painting, Leiter was inspired by exhibitions like Henri Cartier-Bresson's show at MoMA and began pursuing photography. In the 1950s, he worked as a fashion photographer for magazines like Harper's Bazaar and Vogue. However, with the decline of fashion magazines and shifting trends, he gradually faded from view, living as a solitary photographer far removed from the limelight. Yet, his popularity reignited after the year 2000, spurred by exhibitions in the United States and the publication of a photobook by Steidl, leading to the release of a documentary film about him. This book is the catalog published for Japan's first retrospective exhibition held during this resurgence, a massive volume exceeding 300 pages.
