Description from the seller
Willem Adams (1937-2022) was a Dutch painter and draftsman from Meerveldhoven. As largely self-taught, he developed a versatile style ranging from figurative and realistic to abstract and expressionist. He worked with various techniques such as oil paint, gouache, and mixed media. Recurring themes in his oeuvre include humans and animals, but also landscapes and more free compositions. Adams played an active role in the Brabant art scene and was co-founder of the artists' group Mei ’65. His work is included in collections such as the Van Abbemuseum, the Noordbrabants Museum, and the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam.
In this abstract work, Adams demonstrates his strong sense of structure, color, and material. The painting consists of vertical bands of deep brown, ochre, and rust tones, subtly separated by light and dark accents. The brushstrokes are powerful yet controlled, giving the piece a monumental sense of calm. Despite the absence of recognizable forms, the composition suggests an architectural structure — as if the artist has constructed an inner landscape with color and texture.
Dimensions with frame: 43 x 43 cm
Dimensions without frame: 40 x 40 cm
Viewing is, of course, possible. Additionally, we have our own in-house framing workshop, which is celebrating its 85th anniversary. Furthermore, we collaborate with restorers from the professional organization: 'Restauratoren Nederland'. If you wish to make use of this service, we would of course be happy to hear from you.
