Large Pre-Columbian Colima Redware Pottery Figure
North-West Mexican Shaft Tomb Cultures, ca. 200 BC – 200 AD

A finely modeled large redware pottery vessel in the form of a standing male figure carrying multiple vessels on his back by means of a headband.
The figure wears a pointed headdress and has boldly defined facial features, characteristic of the Colima tradition.
The sculptural form also functions as a vessel, with openings integrated into the carried jars.

The surface shows strong scattered mineral deposits attesting to age and burial, with minor crackles to the slip and small areas of professional restoration.

Dimensions: 30 cm high
Provenance: acquired in the Netherlands in 2008
