A magnificent Japanese hanging scroll (kakejiku) by Teruhiko (輝彦),
depicting the famous samurai general Minamoto no Yoshiie (1039–1106),
commonly known as “Hachimantaro,” the embodiment of martial virtue and strategy.

This work portrays the legendary scene known as “Karimidare-zu” (The Wild Geese in Flight),
where Yoshiie, leading his army in northern Japan,
observed a sudden disturbance among the geese flying overhead —
a subtle sign revealing the enemy’s hidden position.
This story, celebrated in Japanese chronicles, symbolizes the intuition and insight of a true leader.

Painted in ink and mineral pigments on silk,
the artwork displays exquisite detail in the armor,
with rich tones of red and blue contrasted against the soft golden background of the sky.
The composition captures a serene yet tense moment,
where nature itself becomes a silent messenger in the art of war.

Mounted with refined light-green silk brocade,
and fitted with cattle bone roller ends,
