Description:
Hand signed proof state, hommage to Pieter Paul Rubens who's painting of the same subject and dated 1632 is now in the Prado in Madrid. We see a galant scene in a wooded garden with several larger architectural garden elements like a grotto and a terras with torsed columns. A music group at left and a dozen of couples spread all over the image. Bottom middle to the right in the plate "Meiner Lieben Frau Am 1918". In pencil beneath the print signed titled and dated: "Liebesgarten ----- Probedruck ----- Hans Meid 1918". Hans Meid (born Pforzheim, Germany) was a major leader of impressionism, along with his close friend Max Slevogt during the first decades of the twentieth century. He died on January 6, 1957 in Ludwigsburg, Germany.
