Description from the seller
E. Reitsma-Valença (1889–1981) was a Dutch artist best known for her drawings, printmaking, and illustrative work. She developed a distinctive, recognizable style that focused on attention to detail and refined line work. Her oeuvre includes both figurative and decorative motifs, often with a sense of intimacy and stillness. Reitsma-Valença was active throughout much of the 20th century and was part of a generation of artists who further refined traditional drawing and graphic techniques. Her work is represented in various collections and exhibitions and demonstrates a consistent dedication to craftsmanship and artistic refinement.
The engraving depicts an intense and carefully composed portrait of a man sitting at a desk, deep in thought. His hand rests on the tabletop, while the other is near his face, emphasizing his contemplative posture. The highly refined line work highlights the texture of skin, hair, and clothing, characteristic of Reitsma-Valença’s technical mastery.
Dimensions of work with frame: 42 x 35 cm.
Dimensions of work without frame: 26 x 20 cm
Viewing is, of course, possible. Additionally, we have our own in-house framing workshop, which is celebrating its 85th anniversary. Furthermore, we collaborate with restorers from the professional organization: 'Restauratoren Nederland'. If you wish to make use of this service, we would of course be happy to hear from you.
