AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

This great work by Tardieu Nicolas Henri illustrates the scene described by Virgil in the Aeneid.

Juno, to hinder the destiny of Aeneas, persuades the wind god Aeolus to unleash a storm to scatter the Trojan fleet, promising him in return the nymph Deiopea, the most beautiful of his fourteen nymphs. To the left of the scene.

Strike with the force of the winds.

The phrase is spoken by Eolo, the god of the winds, to his subordinates the Anemoi, ordering them to unleash a storm against Aeneas's ships.
1753
Large sheet 73x46 cm

This artwork is much more than just a print!

Coypel Antoine (1661 - 1722): inventor
Tardieu Nicolas Henri (1674-1749): engraver

Impressed on heavy laid paper in excellent condition with good margins, finely watercolor-illustrated recently.

The work is an engraving based on a drawing by Charles Antoine Coypel 1694-1752.
Fortunately, Coypel had decided to have the paintings of the Aeneas Gallery engraved by the best specialists (Tardieu, Picart, Duchange) because almost all the fresco paintings have been destroyed.

Nicolas-Henri Tardieu (1674–1749) was a French engraver.
Student of Lepautre, Gérard, Jean, and Benoît Audran, among his many talents, had the merit of creating a successful combination of drypoint and burin, making his work both regular and picturesque.
