Description from the seller
Louis Nagelkerke (Eindhoven, February 3, 1949) has been working as a professional artist since 1980. Louis is a versatile artist who is never without inspiration or new ideas. Movement, beauty, and mysticism are characteristic of his artworks. He is especially inspired by life in the Indonesian archipelago and is fascinated by the mystery of its inhabitants, both human and animal. His inspiration often relates to the Eastern person—musicians, dancers, and female dancers, particularly the people of the beautiful island of Bali. People from the theater are also frequently his models. The subjects of his work are as varied and rich as life itself. But his love for Eastern culture and religion, music, and dance is always present. Louis Nagelkerke is especially known for his highly realistic depictions of people—bringing out the beauty in humans and animals. This is the artist's credo, aiming to make the world more beautiful with his paintings. He is capable of capturing the essence of the image in posture and atmosphere with precision.
In this work, Nagelkerke depicts a young Balinese woman holding a large, metal bowl. Her posture is powerful and firm, while her gaze is focused and directed forward. The artist captures the warm skin tones realistically, enhanced by subtle highlights and shadows that give shape and depth to her body. The bowl is rendered with loose, energetic pastel strokes, conveying both movement and texture. The background consists of warm earth tones that bring the model to the forefront and enhance the tropical atmosphere. The overall scene exudes a combination of simplicity, strength, and everyday beauty—characteristic of Nagelkerke's fascination with Indonesian daily life and the dignity of his models.
Dimensions of work with frame: 82 x 57 cm
Dimensions of the work without a frame: 68 x 43 cm.
