Carel Eliza van der Sande Lacoste (Dordrecht, August 26, 1860 – there, September 30, 1894) was a Dutch painter and draftsman.
Lacoste was the son of Carel Eliza van der Sande Lacoste and Antoinetta Philippina de Jongh. He studied at the Rijksakademie voor Beeldende Kunsten in Amsterdam, among others with August Allebé, and later at the École nationale supérieure des beaux-arts in Paris. He mainly created landscapes, portraits, and interiors. Vincent van Gogh mentions Lacoste in his correspondence but indicated that he did not hold him in particularly high regard. He is generally more appreciated for his drawings than for his paintings. He was a member and later also a board member of the Teekengenootschap Pictura.
Lacoste constantly struggled with his health, which severely hindered his productivity towards the end of his life. He underwent treatment in Davos and died in 1894 at the age of 34, probably from tuberculosis. The Dordrechts Museum has works by Lacoste in its collection. His drawings are mainly in private collections.
Viewing is, of course, possible. Additionally, we have our own in-house framing workshop, which is celebrating its 85th anniversary. Furthermore, we collaborate with restorers from the professional organization: 'Restauratoren Nederland'. If you wish to make use of this service, we would of course be happy to hear from you.
