Description from the seller
Attrib. Kees Van Dongen (ca. 1945–1955), illustration proof
Color illustration proof attributed to Kees Van Dongen, from a series intended for a luxury edition of the post-war period.
Test print maintaining its imposition marks, before trimming.
Scene inspired by Leda and the Swan.
Rendered in the artist's fast and nerveous style: stretched female silhouettes, stylized faces, luminous blonde hair, and a composition in motion above the Paris panorama (Eiffel Tower and hatching rooftops).
Typical mixed technique of Van Dongen's illustrated works: black lithograph enhanced with stencil coloring or a similar process, featuring a very characteristic flesh pink / ochre palette.
Number '83' at the bottom right indicating a sheet integrated into a coherent series.
Very good overall condition, intact wide margins, fresh colors, strong vellum paper. A rare testimony to the artist's preparatory work for the illustrated book, increasingly sought after in specialized sales.
Dimensions: 38 x 28.5 cm
Period: 1945–1955
Provenance: workshop or publisher's files (layout board).
