Description from the seller
¨L'Issue dérobée¨ 1974
Original etching executed in mixed technique — drypoint and aquatint in multiple colors — hand-signed and numbered by the artist (sheet size: 502 x 325 mm).
Very hard to find this exact plate in H.C and in good shape.
Created in Paris in 1974 by Joan Miró (Barcelona 1893 – Palma de Mallorca 1983).
This is a hors-commerce impression, marked in pencil “H.C.” lower left, and signed by Miró in pencil both on the recto and verso. The print bears an embossed stamp on the recto and a blue etching impression on the verso.
A vivid composition with bold colors and spontaneous imagery, taken from Miró’s graphic work for L’Issue Dérobée by Jacques Dupin.
According to the literature, the total edition comprises 220 copies on Vélin d’Arches paper, signed and justified by both the author and the illustrator:
– 15 copies numbered 1–15, each including a monotype and five drypoints, all signed by the artist;
– 35 copies numbered 16–50, each including five drypoints signed and numbered by the artist;
– 150 copies numbered 51–200, signed and numbered by the artist;
– and 20 hors-commerce copies, signed and marked “H.C.” by the artist — of which this example is one.
Uncut sheet with full margins (“barbes”), in perfect condition, printed on Vélin d’Arches paper. Presented in a black-painted frame with anti-reflective glass.
Ref.: Patrick Cramer, Catalogue raisonné des livres illustrés, p. 460, no. 187.
