Description from the seller
Pieter Defesche (1921–1998) was a Dutch painter and graphic artist, closely associated with the Limburg artists' group De Limburgse School and later also linked to the Amsterdam School of figurative abstraction. His work is characterized by a lyric-abstract style, where color, movement, and atmosphere are central. Defesche was strongly inspired by landscapes, mythology, and natural experiences; he incorporated these themes into expressive compositions in which figuration and abstraction intersect.
With his free brushwork, rich use of color, and sense of rhythm, he created paintings that often carry a dreamy, almost symbolic undertone. In addition to painting, Defesche also produced works on paper and prints. He exhibited frequently both domestically and internationally, and his work is included in various museum and private collections. Defesche remains appreciated for his poetic approach to landscapes and his ability to capture emotion and atmosphere in a powerful visual idiom.
This colorful lithograph depicts Defesche's typical interplay between figuration and abstraction. In bright red, yellow, and green, a landscape unfolds that remains both recognizable and dreamlike. The green lines suggest hills, trees, and road structures, while the areas of red and yellow fill the image with warmth and energy. In the foreground, two figures can be seen in purple outlines, appearing to walk together through the landscape.
Dimensions with frame: 53 x 69 cm
Dimensions without frame: 45 x 61 cm
Viewing is, of course, possible. Additionally, we have our own in-house framing workshop, which is celebrating its 85th anniversary. Furthermore, we collaborate with restorers from the professional organization: 'Restauratoren Nederland'. If you wish to make use of this service, we would of course be happy to hear from you.
