Description from the seller
Gijs van Lith - No. 9 - oil paint on canvas - 140x190 cm
Gijs van Lith (1984) is a Dutch artist, primarily active as a painter, but his body of work also includes sculptures and installations. He studied at the art academy AKV St. Joost in 's-Hertogenbosch, where he earned both his bachelor's and master's degrees.
His work centers around the creative process, with particular attention to materiality and the physical act of painting. Van Lith plays with expectations of what a painting can or should be, often involving both the front and back of the canvas in his work.
His work has received both national and international recognition and has been included in various private and corporate collections. In 2009, he won the Thieme Art Young Talent Award. Significant exhibitions include his solo exhibition at the Kunsthal Rotterdam in 2018 and a duo exhibition with Henk Visch at Het Noordbrabants Museum in 2020.
