Karel Appel (Amsterdam, 25 April 1921 – Zürich, 3 May 2006) was a Dutch painter and sculptor, active in the modern art of the second half of the twentieth century. He is considered part of the expressionists. His big breakthrough came with his membership in the Cobra group.

Very fine impression by Karel Appel in perfect condition dating from 1979. The composition is dominated by a stylized figure, built from bold, energetic black strokes. The shapes are deliberately simplified and almost childlike.

Unique Objects

Occasionally, two different bidders may show up in the bidding history with the same bid amount. This occurs when one user's bid is exactly the same as an automatic (maximum) bid placed by another user earlier. Since the auto-bid was placed first, this takes preference. The bidding history will show both bids, with the auto-bid ranked as the higher of the two.


Double bid

It may appear that the same bid has been placed by two different bidders. This can occur if someone places a bid in another currency which is then rounded to the same amount as the previous bid in %{local_currency}.
