Ger van Oers

This Nativity scene from the Provence, the "Santons", are hand-made naive figurines made of clay. 
Very rustic polychrome Tanagra figurines. 

Each year during the Christmas season they are grouped together to offer us a picture of the birth of Christ in the humble setting of the stable. 
In the beginning of the 18th century, they were also used as setting for a "pastoral" performance and the singing of Provencal Christmas carols.
