A 19th century rosewood craft box manufactured during the English Victorian period about 1840-1860. The box is made of a light (coniferous) type of wood and glued with Rio rosewood veneer. The cover is finished with quarter around silver plated mouldings and also the inlaid rectangle and key entrance are of silver plated metal. On the inside of the lid is a mirror in a rosewood imitation ("wooded") mouldings. On the inside of the box is a removable tray with; pincushions, lockable compartments with lids with rosewood imitation and buttons of bone, the two yarn bobbin holders are unfortunately missing. In the past this tray has not been very carefully glued together, hence some hardened glue remains. Beneath the tray is an open compartment to store, e.g., embroidery patterns. The lock is original, but unfortunately a working key is missing. Both brass hinges have been replaced in the past. The craft box has a wonderful deep warm colour which stands out beautifully because of the authentic French polish finish; together with the gloss the whole has a chic look. 

Dimensions; height: 10.5 cm, width:  33 cm, depth 21.5 cm.
