Netherlands - early 20th century - Wood- Mahogany

With subsidiaries on the Keizersgracht no. 523 and the P.C. Hooftstraat 47
in Amsterdam the company J.J.Zummers & Co. was. one of the famous and better furniture designers in Holland at the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century. In the present time, their furniture still easily finds its way to various auctions up to and including Christies.

The three chairs offered are designed in a mix of styles, so the type of back and armrest is reminiscent of the rococo style, the back of the chair is characteristic of the art deco period and the processing of the backrest is more inspired by art nouveau
The front legs have cabriole feet and remind of the early 19th century. And then there is the ornamental wood carvings.

The men’s chair with armrests should be repaired to the diagonal black cross connection of the backrest. It is the central connection in the middle which requires a repair.
There is a slight damage mark in the wood on top of the backrest of one of the ladies chairs (see picture).
The upholstery on all three chairs is slightly worn and with a few stains.
Structurally, the chairs are still very good and sturdy. All joints are in good condition. No loose parts. No squeaking or movement. This is an artisanal quality product of a highly skilled and well-known furniture maker!
If desired, I can have the backrest repaired for you by a licensed furniture maker for a competitive rate.

If possible, check the rate.
