Walnut Tunbridge inlaid writing slope with mother of pearl plaque and escutcheon. Removable pen tray, a flip out lidded compartment for pens, nibs etc. The inside main surface has an original blue lining. A two-sided insert, when opened up, reveals two separate storage areas for letters and documents.
The box has a secret mechanism revealing 2 drawers hidden behind a board. You can release a spring and remove the board by pulling up a side of the small compartment on the left.
In one of the drawers a note: "Presented to S.Cu.Mottram by Mr & Miss Webb with the best wishes for her future happiness, May 26th 1879"
Some scratches and dents on the surface, missing lock, otherwise the writing box in a good condition, please see the photos.
