The Baule masks are among the most sought-after 'classical' masks of West Africa. This is particularly true for the type of ‘Mblo’ masks worn in the gba gba dance, which is considered a woman’s dance, because women are expected and allowed to take part in it. It is a dance performed as entertainment on rest days or during mourning ceremonies for people associated with this dance.
Beautiful patina on the inside and outside, several delicate cracks from age.
