Leo Setz

Anthony Keizer. Dutch painter belonging to the Meppeler School.  Meppel 1897-1961.
Painter and member of the Meppeler School. Painted above all the landscape of Drenthe, often in a red-brown and bright white yellow such as turf huts, sheep, heath scenery and sand dunes.
Mainly self-taught but received instructions from Puet Zwiers and worked with Albert Torie and Jannes de Vries.
Made trips to France, Austria, Switzerland, Italy, and Germany. He lived in Gildehaus in 1942 - 1947. Member of Arti et Amicitiae. 
Beautifully painted in impressionist style and broad brushstrokes, turf huts in Drenthe with a farmer's wife and bucket on her way towards the pigs and there are chickens in the foreground. Striking, interesting, early work by this highly sought-after painter.
Fully signed and dated on the back with a description and signature.
