Ruth Garrido Vila

Grinning Gorgon mask attachment with the tongue lolling out, bare teeth and long fangs. 
Fine archaic stile with almond-shaped eyes, a prominent nose, rounded cheeks, and perched small ears. The hair is arranged in three rows of curls across the forehead.
For an example from the same mold, cf. inv. no. 1873,0820.481.b in the British Museum database.
Terracotta decorative attachments are believed to have adorned wooden coffins. Their use would go with the frightening and apotropaic nature of the Gorgon.
