We are delighted to present a copy of this rare report on ALGOL 60, covering both its syntax and semantics. 
This report became the standard for the language. In the same year this copy was published it was also printed in the Communications of the ACM and in Numerische Mathematik.

ALGOL 60 was produced as an improved version of ALGOL, two years after its original creation. ALGOL 60 was the product of a meeting of thirteen people in Paris, listed as co-authors. Key names are John Backus, Peter Naur, A. J. Perlis and H. Rutishauser. 

Peter Naur, lead developer of ALGOL, recipient of the Turing Award, made a massive contribution in the development of computer languages.

This copy was owned by the National Physical Laboratory’s Division of Information Technology and Computing. One of the oldest standardising laboratories in the world, it has carried out computing research since the 1940s, including Alan Turing’s ACE project.

Overall, the report is a fascinating artefact in the history of computing.

Beige card covers in very good condition. No rust stains to covers or pages from stapled binding. Some darkening at head and hinge. 
Ex-library markings, pictorial NPL bookplate to inside of front cover. Other than ex-library markings, pages are clean and in very good condition.
